From Maggies Notebook via The Lonely Conservative comes this ” gem” from Bill Maher. Leave it to the most liberal of liberals to keep putting gasoline on the fire that everyone else is trying to put out.
Bill Maher gives his best performance, ever, on Jay Leno by saying rightwingers think it would be fun to kill those who disagree with them.
He quotes the “rightwing” saying “wouldn’t it be fun to kill the people we disagree with?” Listen to the audience reaction to this maniacal rant. He asks them if they “read.” “Stop the bullsh*t about the Second Amendment and the Constitution” he says.

He does has some good points though.
And they are?????…Feel like a teacher trying to coax the easy answer from the dumbest kid in class here. Come on, help me out here.
Lol, Sorry, I’ll start by saying I think he is a complete ass for trying to link the republicans to this shooting. However, when talking about which party is more likely to have a militia I tend to agree with him. Democrats are typically against owning guns, Republicans are much more likely to have access to a weapon.
Of course, perhaps I shouldn’t have said anything at all. Given your premise for citing the video, I have no objection whatsoever. When I was younger, I really wanted to agree with Bill Maher, but I could never bring myself to do it.
Why can’t we just accept that this lunatic that tried to assassinate Gabby, was just that, a lunatic. I’m really saddened that we have managed to turn this into a blame game.
For your frame of reference, I am a Moderate that leans to the right. By the way, I really appreciate your blog. I am here often and this is the first time I have commented, but thanks for the good work.
Thanks for your viewership and for commenting. Feel free to comment more often. And I’m glad you didn’t take offense from my reply, none was meant.
Militias are inherently far right wing entities.I knew a couple of militia members and thought they were nucking futz. Most conservatives don’t condone their activities. But we are sticklers for our rights as espoused in the Constitution and the BOR.
Nah, it’s pretty hard to offend me. It’s a good point that you make and touches upon the issue that I felt Bill Maher misunderstood. I won’t watch the video again, but I believe he said that the desire to own a gun was simply an addiction. That is such a one-sided view of things and he should, and probably does, know better.
Face it, people have guns in this country. If more of us had guns, especially in such a gun crazy state as AZ, maybe this shooting wouldn’t have ended sooner. Or better yet, if the police department could spare one patrol car when a US Congresswoman has an outdoor event especially with the number of death threats and attacks on her office. Judge Roll carried a gun with him, but it looks like he didn’t have it on that day because he just came from Mass.
I don’t have a gun, but that is because when I try and shoot, people die. Seriously. My brother works for Homeland Security. He took me shooting once and I somehow shot the metal rod at the top of the target and bullets ricocheted back at us.
Anyway, the point is taken. I think anything at either extreme is probably just that – extreme and not representative of an entire population.
That should be would have ended sooner, not wouldn’t have ended sooner…
I got the gist.
I consider a gun as a tool. Much the same as my other tools. I have guns for self defense and I have guns for hunting. And I have tools for work; saws, drills, hammers, ect. and I have tools for fun, my carving tools, antique and vintage woodworking tools.
