From Xinhuanet via twitter, we find out that China’s Defense Minister, on a four day visit to Mexico, has promised the Mexican government cooperation in military affairs, including bilateral exchanges in various fields. I wonder what they could be? As if China and Mexico don’t have enough problems, they want to exacerbate them by establishing a military alliance, ala The United States and NATO? More below the fold.

Kmita3 asks why and that’s a good question. Is it because Mexico has backed China in it’s disputes with Taiwan and Tibet? Or is it because China sees a good opportunity to possibly establish quasi military bases in Mexico with the intent of shoving a thorn in the underbelly of the US? If these two countries do come to some kind of agreement about basing Chinese troops on Mexican soil, what are the implications for The United States and our Southern border states? How would this arrangement effect the drug cartels in Mexico? Would the cartels, by hook or by crook, be able to purchase upgraded weaponry from the Chinese or corrupt Mexican military officers in their quest to run more and more drugs across the southern border? There are a lot of questions that need to be asked and answered before this unholy alliance takes place. What are the implications for the rest of Central and South America?
