I often wonder why the only gun related news that makes it onto the Main Stream Media is always bad news. Why does the MSM ignore the positive aspects of gun ownership? I guess because stories of self defense don’t fit the agenda of the MSM. Yet they will report on the rare story of a mass shooter killing multiple people, making a “hero” out of the shooter plastering his name and picture all over the news for weeks. What that does is give the killer, if he’s still alive to go to trial, a sense of accomplishment and gives other people with mental issues a reason to go out and copycat the latest atrocity. It’s that “fifteen minutes of fame” thing Andy Warhol talked about.
America has had a gun culture since it’s founding and will continue to have one for the foreseeable future. Guns were important to our founders both for hunting and for self defense. By the way, they also came in handy when those pesky British tried to put the colonists back in their place. Guns and the ability to use them is still important today for the same reasons, except we don’t expect to see British corsairs appearing over the horizon anytime soon. (I believe we taught them a lesson they won’t soon forget the last time they tried that.)
BRYAN COUNTY, OK–A day off for fall break was anything but relaxing for a 12-year old Bryan County girl, when an intruder broke into her home on Michael Avenue.
Deputies say, the girl was home alone when a man she’d never seen before, rang the front doorbell. They say when no one answered the door, the man went around to the back of the house and kicked a door open. That’s when authorities say, the girl grabbed a gun and hid in a bathroom closet.
“He had worked his way all the way through the house and into the bathroom. And from what we understand, he was turning the doorknob when she fired through the door.” Says Bryan County Under sheriff, Ken Golden.
After the man was shot, The 12- year old ran out of the closet and called for help.
Authorities say she kept her cool despite the potential danger. “She was very brave, she stayed on the phone with the dispatcher the whole time – talked all the way through it and was still on the phone with dispatch when we got into the house.” Says Golden.
Seems to me this criminal picked the wrong house. And lets not forget about the fifteen year old young man who defended his home from an intruder with his Dad’s AR-15;
Not only did this brave 15-year-old defend his home against 2 burglars, but also his 12-year-old sister who was in the house with him. He grabbed his father’s AR-15 and shot one of the burglars multiple times. They got away but had to go right to the hospital where the minor was arrested and the adult who was shot was flown to a different hospital.
From the Kentucky Concealed Carry Coalition, a series of self defense stories that didn’t make it onto the MSM;
Alleged robber was free on bond. Omaha Police say that one of the owners of the Benson Jewelry and Loan fired a weapon that killed a would-be robber and critically injured his alleged accomplice…
The homeowner told police the two men kicked in his back door just before 5 a.m. Saturday. They tried to flee after being shot.
…as [the victim] tried to get away, a fight started. That’s when the victim apparently pulled out his own gun and fired several shots, hitting two of the suspects.
Man “fired his .45-caliber Smith & Wesson twice by accident, while trying to cock it and chamber a round.” He won in the end but it’s something to learn from!
A 17-year-old robbery suspect died late Thursday or early Friday after he suffered a gunshot wound when a storeowner fired in self-defense, police said.
To officials with the Long John Silver’s seafood chain, a restaurant manager who foiled a robbery after picking up a hammer and hitting a masked gunman he feared might kill him was an employee who violated company policy that requires cooperating with robbers.

“We hadn’t had that bear dead within three minutes when 12 cross-country runners from the high school came by,” Babcock said.

Pizza man saved by gun, but fired for packin’ heat
Prosecutors call it ‘clear case of self-defense,’ yet national chain prohibits carrying firearms.
Wearing mask, gloves, he intended to rob Roselawn shop, police say
The owner of a convenience store shot and killed an armed man wearing a black ski mask who authorities said was intending to rob the store, police said Friday.
So as can be seen from this small sampling of stories, guns still play an important role in the lives of everyday Americans. And they didn’t make onto any national news show.
And lately, we have government officials vilifying gun owners, especially conservative gun owners. Here’s the latest from a West Point think tank via my friends at The Rio Norte Line.
A West Point think tank has issued a paper warning America about “far right” groups such as the “anti-federalist” movement, which supports “civil activism, individual freedoms and self-government.”
This is how tyrants have always dealt with those who seek to defend their individual rights and freedoms. They make them outlaws by passing unjust laws designed to make them into criminals. then they demonize these people and tell society they are a threat to peace and safety. Finally, they push for an incident, say, a “Waco-style” event (see story below) and use that as “proof” that we are a threat and they send the military to “collect” us. Now, if you doubt this, I have a friend who had to flee Cuba as a child because he didn’t want to get “collected.” You let me know and I’ll invite him to guest post here. I think he’ll have harsh words for those who tell him we are not starting down the same road Castro took Cuba.
Makes one just shake their head in consternation. How could we have let things get this bad?
Update; Also via Instapundit;
WHY AL FRANKEN IS LOOKING IFFY ON GUN CONTROL: Minnesotans Buying Guns In Record Numbers. “Across the country, firearms industry analysts point to soaring numbers — including first-time gun buyers now making up a quarter of all sales and nearly 75 percent of gun retailers reporting sales boosts over last year. Minnesotans are riding that same wave, prompting more than 25,000 law enforcement queries tied to permit applications since Dec. 18. That’s more than double the 10,681 checks run for permits during the same period a year ago. . . . Those burgeoning numbers worry gun control advocates, who are puzzled that the reaction to the Newtown tragedy has been this massive firearms buildup.”
And the always astute commentary from Glenn Reynolds;
They don’t understand things very well, do they? But then, the gun-control movement is a bunch of old, out-of-touch white people, clinging to the politics of the last century.
