Conservatives And Libertarians Need To Come Together…Video

Smitty brings us a video interview of Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina discussing how Conservatives and Libertarians need to come together and how we can start to bring America back to it’s former greatness. They also talk about DeMint’s new book, ” Now Or Never”, saving America from economic collapse.

I almost believe Jim DeMint would endorse Ron Paul for President.

  1. Mr. G.,

OK, I agree, but I see a major schism between these two groups that might be the primary reason this hasn’t and will NEVER happen. Is it me, or do you see the possibility that the major difference between “conservatives” and libertarians being that libertarians tend to NOT believe in God?

The primary reason “conservatives” have never embraced Ayn Rand’s philosophy is because it is Godless and, as such, as incompatible with the natural order of the universe as all socialist/collectivist ideologies.

I’ve been thinking about this for some time and, now that you posted this piece, I figure it would be a good time to ask your opinion – as I’ve come to respect your input.

    Joe

  2. I’m a Libertarian and I believe in God as do most of the Libertarians I know.

I see the difference as being Libertarians have more common sense and are more objective.

    • Easy, I’m not an enemy. I am NOT a “conservative” (anyone following my “war” on the RNL knows this). But I’m not a libertarian, either, as they tend to go a bit too far to the right, past the Constitution. I was just asking because I know a LOT of libertarians, and most of them are agnostic or atheists. So I was asking to get a broader perspective – nothing more. 🙂

  3. My goal is to show as many people as I possibly can that there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats, they’re all the same. As long as we keep voting them back in, time and time again, then all hope is lost.

      • Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you B3, but my lovely wife has been doing an admirable job in my stead. 😉

I’ve just started “Liberty Defined”, a book you recommended. This thread ties in nicely with the chapter on “bipartisanship.” Bipartisanship is bad policy. By practicing bipartisanship, politicians compromise on their principles and take us further along the path to the Progressive “Utopia” promised in the writings of Hegel, Marx and others.

Progressives want a centralized government run by supposed educated elitist non -elected bureaucrats. They think government has all the answers to society’s problems and it just aint gonna happen.

      • Yes, Mr. G., she most certainly has, and I greatly appreciate her input. 🙂

As for “LIberty Defined,” I’ll say that I agree with Paul on all but two main areas. Unfortunately, these two differences represent HUGE chasms between Paul and myself – at least as far as I’m concerned. Rather than risk altering anyone’s perspective, I will wait to hear your take on the totality of Paul’s arguments.

In the mean time, I continue to pray for this country as, in my eyes, we’ve proven we – as humans – are wholly incapable of handling things on our own for any but the briefest periods of time.
