Who Represents You?

January 27, 2012

Who Represents You?.

A good essay from Film Ladd stating the obvious. In reality, the President only has the power that Congress gives him/her. If we want to reign in the President’s un-American agenda, we need to do it through our elected Representatives.  go to their Town Hall meetings and campaign stops. If/when they’re elected to serve us, keep their feet to the fire by calling them, writing letters or sending emails. Flood their phone lines and mail boxes. Let them know we’re watching them and taking notes for the next election.

This notion bears repeating in a different way than I have before.

There’s yet another debate tonight. If you’re a conservative of any stripe, you’ll notice lots of people arguing back and forth about the Presidential primaries on Facebook and Twitter. “Thought leaders” in the media and blogosphere will play it up. We’ll see lots of sturm und drang for the sake of book sales, web hits, radio and television ratings.

You may be drawn into a big social media fight over which of the Presidential Fantastic Four is best. Don’t participate in futility that will degenerate into harpyism (Google: Ann Coulter), consider asking your prospective debate opponent this: “Who’s your representative in Congress and Senate?”

We all need a strong, liberty-oriented Congress and Senate to protect us from whoever wins, Obama or someone from the Republican side of the aisle. There will be terrible bills to prevent, repeal, beat back (NDAA, Obamacare, SOPA/PIPA, etc.).

You can effect change in your district’s election – even if you’re in the worst gerrymandered district in the Union, one that would gladly vote Karl Marx for Congress and Che Guevara for Senate.

You – yes, you! – can still help “pin down” your Congressman or Senator in a fight at home. Otherwise, if they run unchallenged, they are free to help their anti-freedom colleagues in other districts. Your inaction may result in your lousy Congresscritter exporting his or her stupidity to my district.

Make them spend their campaign money and their time in their own districts.

It’s the neighborly thing to do.

So tell me about your Representatives and what you’re doing!

The Verdict Is In…Global Warming Is A Hoax

January 27, 2012

Via Memeorandum

From an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, sixteen well respected scientists have signed the opinion piece which states that we don’t need to worry so much about global warming. Basically, they’re saying what what opponents have been saying all along…Follow the money. Here’s an excerpt;

Editor’s Note: The following has been signed by the 16 scientists listed at the end of the article:

A candidate for public office in any contemporary democracy may have to consider what, if anything, to do about “global warming.” Candidates should understand that the oft-repeated claim that nearly all scientists demand that something dramatic be done to stop global warming is not true. In fact, a large and growing number of distinguished scientists and engineers do not agree that drastic actions on global warming are needed.

In September, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever, a supporter of President Obama in the last election, publicly resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) with a letter that begins: “I did not renew [my membership] because I cannot live with the [APS policy] statement: ‘The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth’s physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.’ In the APS it is OK to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?”

In spite of a multidecade international campaign to enforce the message that increasing amounts of the “pollutant” carbon dioxide will destroy civilization, large numbers of scientists, many very prominent, share the opinions of Dr. Giaever. And the number of scientific “heretics” is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts.

Perhaps the most inconvenient fact is the lack of global warming for well over 10 years now. This is known to the warming establishment, as one can see from the 2009 “Climategate” email of climate scientist Kevin Trenberth: “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.” But the warming is only missing if one believes computer models where so-called feedbacks involving water vapor and clouds greatly amplify the small effect of CO2.

The lack of warming for more than a decade—indeed, the smaller-than-predicted warming over the 22 years since the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) began issuing projections—suggests that computer models have greatly exaggerated how much warming additional CO2 can cause. Faced with this embarrassment, those promoting alarm have shifted their drumbeat from warming to weather extremes, to enable anything unusual that happens in our chaotic climate to be ascribed to CO2.

The fact is that CO2 is not a pollutant. CO2 is a colorless and odorless gas, exhaled at high concentrations by each of us, and a key component of the biosphere’s life cycle. Plants do so much better with more CO2 that greenhouse operators often increase the CO2 concentrations by factors of three or four to get better growth. This is no surprise since plants and animals evolved when CO2 concentrations were about 10 times larger than they are today. Better plant varieties, chemical fertilizers and agricultural management contributed to the great increase in agricultural yields of the past century, but part of the increase almost certainly came from additional CO2 in the atmosphere.

Here’s the deal. Everyone wants clean air and water, but the Warming alarmists have made a bundle of money off of this scam. Yes, I said scam because that is what it is. Many prominent people have made millions of dollars from this scam by buying and selling “carbon offsets.” Al Gore got a Nobel Prize for his much touted movie about climate change, plus made millions of dollars.

Here’s more;

Speaking for many scientists and engineers who have looked carefully and independently at the science of climate, we have a message to any candidate for public office: There is no compelling scientific argument for drastic action to “decarbonize” the world’s economy. Even if one accepts the inflated climate forecasts of the IPCC, aggressive greenhouse-gas control policies are not justified economically.

A recent study of a wide variety of policy options by Yale economist William Nordhaus showed that nearly the highest benefit-to-cost ratio is achieved for a policy that allows 50 more years of economic growth unimpeded by greenhouse gas controls. This would be especially beneficial to the less-developed parts of the world that would like to share some of the same advantages of material well-being, health and life expectancy that the fully developed parts of the world enjoy now. Many other policy responses would have a negative return on investment. And it is likely that more CO2 and the modest warming that may come with it will be an overall benefit to the planet.

If elected officials feel compelled to “do something” about climate, we recommend supporting the excellent scientists who are increasing our understanding of climate with well-designed instruments on satellites, in the oceans and on land, and in the analysis of observational data. The better we understand climate, the better we can cope with its ever-changing nature, which has complicated human life throughout history. However, much of the huge private and government investment in climate is badly in need of critical review.

I should point out that the UN Agenda 21 controversy also started about this time period. Follow the money.

Update: William Teach over at the Cove has his take on the story.

And, let’s not forget, with strong economic growth comes advances, advances that could see quality replacements for much of the use of fossil fuels (coal and oil, which, let’s face it, aren’t particularly clean, and I’m not referring to CO2) at cheap prices. Instead of wasting money on means to “stop global warming”, none of which actually work, that same money could be used to solve medical issues, to increase the quality of life of people, and even deal with real environmental issues. But, we all know that the AGW movement is about putting more money and power into the hands of centralized government, enforcing a far left fascistic vision of the world.

And, oh, these scientists aren’t exactly pip squeeks. Check the listing at the WSJ.

Good point William.

Update II: Our good friend Paco has a little fun with this one;

Weer not just cunservitive…

weer stoopid, to.

Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

Hm. Paco so upset by news, go have smoke now, try to calm down (but how to work matchbook?) Maybe, later, hoot and throw s**t at smart, liberal neighbors (if Paco can find own ass. I know! Maybe use both hands do trick! Hoot! Hoot! Hoot!)

Conservatives Are Stupid Illiterates And Have Low IQ’s Says Canadian Psychologist

January 26, 2012

Via Memeorandum

According to a Canadian psychologist, if you’re a Conservative, you’re most likely stupid and have a low IQ. What dumbass funded this particular bit of research? Psychology is voodoo science along the lines of Astrology. At least Astrology has some science mixed in. Psychologists take a small sampling of people and extrapolate their imaginary findings to make the numbers fit a preconceived pattern. They already know ahead of time what they want their study to say. Kind of like those climate change “scientists.” Here’s an excerpt from the story;

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

“Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood,” he said.

Controversy ahead

The findings combine three hot-button topics.

“They’ve pulled off the trifecta of controversial topics,” said Brian Nosek, a social and cognitive psychologist at the University of Virginia who was not involved in the study. “When one selects intelligence, political ideology and racism and looks at any of the relationships between those three variables, it’s bound to upset somebody.”

Psychology is one of those degrees you get when you’re too stupid to pass Womyn’s studies or get an engineering degree.

Proof That Yes You Can Fix Stupid*

January 23, 2012

If you go into any Waffle House in Spartanburg County in South Carolina to do some mischief, be forewarned, the customers might be armed. That’s what one young man found out when him and a friend tried to hold up the late night customers at a Waffle House in Chesney, South Carolina Saturday night. Here are some excerpts from the news story;

A Roebuck man – less than two hours into his 19th birthday – entered the Waffle House on Chesnee Highway with a gun and attempted to rob the restaurant before a customer fired his weapon, killing the teen, authorities said Saturday.

Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Waffle House at 2230 Chesnee Highway just before 1:15 a.m. Saturday. Two masked men had entered the restaurant with the intention of robbing it, and at least one of them was armed, authorities said.

A customer, who is a concealed weapons permit holder, thwarted the robbery by pulling his gun and attempting to hold the men until deputies arrived. When one of the men pointed his gun at the customer, the patron fired, killing the teenager.

The teenager, later identified as Dante Lamont Williams, of 827 S. Edisto River Drive, Roebuck, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a written statement from Coroner Rusty Clevenger. Williams had been shot in the head and chest.

Sheriff Chuck Wright said he does not plan to charge the customer, who he says is “very upset” about the shooting.

After pulling his .45-caliber Glock, the customer ordered the men to stay put until deputies arrived. Only after Williams pointed his Hi-Point 9mm at the man, did the customer fire, Wright said.“The way you get shot by a concealed weapons permit holder is you point a gun at him,” the sheriff said.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the identity or location of the second suspect to call CrimeStoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.

No customers or employees were injured. A dozen people were in the restaurant at the time.

Wright did not release the name of the customer, saying with one suspect still on the loose, he did not want to put the man in danger. The sheriff said he would release the name of the man, who is local and in his mid 20s, in a week.

This is the same sheriff who asked citizens to get their CCW permits and go armed because of rising crime. This sheriff gets it.

In October, in the wake of an attempted rape at a popular park in Spartanburg County, Wright implored female residents to obtain concealed weapons permits, saying that residents need to fight back. The comments made national news and precipitated a spike in concealed weapons classes.

In the months since then, several instances of residents shooting or attempting to shoot aggressors have occurred, including a homeowner who shot a man staying inside a vacant Converse Heights home.

Wright described Saturday’s shooting as “another example of how a (concealed weapons permit) may save your life.”

Five Most Important Words In The English Language…

January 22, 2012

Memo From the National Affairs Desk: Somewhere, There Is an Island ….

Stacy McCain is on his way home from covering the South Carolina GOP primary. And amazingly enough, he did it all on Paypal donations from his loyal readers. I’m just disappointed that I couldn’t manage to meet up with the intrepid crew from Maryland. Here’s an excerpt from his latest report from the Palmetto state;

ROCK HILL, S.C.
Jimmie Bise Jr. was on the phone when I turned off the exit from I-77 North and hooked a left toward the McDonald’s. We were discussing the finer points of blogger ethics, and the importance of disclosing one’s biases in regard to such controversial topics as a contested Republican presidential primary campaign.

Of course, Jimmie was in a fine mood, ready to fire up a cigarette and recline on his pillow to enjoy the post-coital glow, smiling contentedly about having had his way with the breathless sweat-soaked hussy whose name prior to Saturday was “Inevitability,” but whom Newt Gingrich now calls My Sweet Bitch.

That metaphor might be a bit too vividly kinky for some readers, but my point is that Jimmie had openly declared his support for Newt Gingrich and was thus entitled to an honest day in the Gloat Zone.

So Jimmie and I were discussing this when I pulled into the parking lot of McDonald’s and I told him, “No one can ever doubt the objectivity of the Future U.S.  Ambassador to Vanuatu.”

Just then, I glanced up and beheld the frightening sight of a human scarecrow staggering toward my rented Toyota. She was wearing a cheap coat and gestured her solicitation of assistance, but I waved her away, annoyed by this aged burnt-out meth whore’s attempted intrusion. Jimmie and I were laughing about the failure of Romney’s well-funded campaign strategists to recognize my obvious aptitude for diplomacy as I switched off the car.

“Hang on a second, Jimmie,” I said, instructing my 13-year-old son Jefferson to grab my computer bag. Then I started to continue my phone conversation as I got out of the car, but suddenly the phone went dead — dead battery. I sent Jefferson inside to plug in the phone while he set up the laptop, the packing and unpacking of my computer having been his main task as my assistant on this eight-day Carolina campaign road-trip…

So friends and neighbors, what are the five most important words in the English language?

Ron Paul’s Concession Speech

January 22, 2012

Ron Paul’s concession speech sounded more like a clarion call to the American people than a concession speech. Of course, he touched on all of his usual points; ending the Federal Reserve, restoring the constitutional principles and returning our foreign policy to what the Founders outlined in the Constitution.

Newt Gaining Steam In South Carolina…PPP Poll Has Newt Up By 14%+

January 21, 2012

Via Memeorandum

 Public Policy Polling shows Newt Gingrich gaining on his lead over Mitt Romney in South Carolina.Both politicians are going all out pulling everything they can out of their bags of dirty tricks.

Newt Gingrich heads into South Carolina election day as the clear front runner in the state: he’s now polling at 37% to 28% for Mitt Romney, 16% for Rick Santorum, and 14% for Ron Paul.

Gingrich’s lead has actually increased in the wake of his ex-wife’s controversial interview with ABC. Although one night poll results should always be interpreted with caution, he led the final night of the field period by a 40-26 margin. One thing that continues to work to his advantage are the debates.  60% of primary voters report having watched the one last night, and Gingrich has a 46-23 lead with those folks.

The other reason his ex-wife’s interview isn’t causing him much trouble is that there’s a lot of skepticism about it. Only 31% of voters say they think her accusations are true while 35% think they are false and 34% are unsure. 51% of voters say that they have ‘no concerns’ about what came out in the interview.

The skepticism of Republican voters toward the media is helping Gingrich as well.  Just 14% of likely voters have a generally favorable opinion of the media, while 77% view it negatively.  Gingrich’s attacks on the media have clearly played well with the party base.

Gingrich is leading with pretty much every key segment of the Republican electorate. He’s up 41-21 on Romney and Santorum with Evangelicals, he has a 52-18 advantage on Romney with Tea Partiers, he leads Santorum 44-21 with ‘very conservative’ voters with Romney at 20%, and he’s up 39-26 with men.

In the final week of the campaign Gingrich rose from 24% to 37% in PPP’s polling while Romney basically stayed in place, going from 29% to 28%. Romney saw a 15 point decline in his net favorability in the closing stretch from +24 (57/33) to just +9 (51/42). Gingrich saw a modest increase in his numbers over the final week from +14 (51/37) to +17 (54/37).

Usually when we poll in the closing days before an election and find someone ahead by 9 points we’ll say with a pretty high degree of confidence that person’s going to win. I’m not comfortable saying that about South Carolina.  A primary election with a lot of new news in the closing days for voters to absorb is fertile ground for a final result that’s at odd with the polls.  Mark Blumenthal’s piece today for Huffington Post about ‘expecting the unexpected’ tomorrow is well worth a read.  Gingrich will probably win tomorrow- but there’s a higher than normal chance for a surprise given everything that’s gone down in the last 48 hours.
